Austrian Economics

Instructor: John Spiers, MA

Wondering what happened!? How come nobody saw the dot.com bubble or the burst coming? Why is the currency going wacky? Where is my pension?! Will I have a job?

There are many schools of economics, such as monetarist, supply-side, marxist, keynesian, and chicago versions... but only one school of thought consistently predicted and explained the economic events of the last 100 years.

Although Austrian theory has roots going back 400 years, the school is largely unknown in academia since its practitioners actually work for a living, and teach only on the side.

In this course we will study the basics of Austrian Economics, with a view to continuing the lifelong study and economic-self-preservation that comes with a working knowledge of the theory. Trade, money, credit, markets and choice will be included.
